The American System was an important step in uniting the country as far as trading goes, and the Missouri Compromise straightened out the mess concerning slavery for another few decades. The south got Missouri, which made slave owners happy, and the North got Maine to be slave-free. Finally, it included the development of a system of internal improvements such as roads and canals.
