The advantages of home educati

Up until the 1850's most children in America were educated at home, so home schooling is not necessarily new. However the past twenty-five years have seen a revival in home schooling, and now between two and three million children in the United States are learning at home. Home schooling has become the new way to increase a child's learning ability as well as giving him or her more options of learning then a traditional school. With statistics like these it is easy to see why home schooling has its advantages. One of the major advantages to home schooling a child is that a person can specifically teach to his or her own learning style. Bradway and Hill state they like to use the simple terms "lookers," "listeners," and "movers" to describe the way children in their practice learn best (6). Lookers are visual learners who rely on the sense of sight when taking in information. Listeners are auditory learners with a preference for sounds and words over information taken in by sight or touch. Movers prefer to learn by physical touch, or also called hands-on learning. One of the biggest questions or concerns about home schooling a child is "will my child be too isolated? " This is also one of the biggest misconceptions of home-schoolers.
