TV violence AND CHILDREN

             Children and Violence on Television!
             Television is a major part of everyday life for young children, teenagers and adults. Although television is meant to educate, inform and entertain us, it can also be a harmful tool against a child if parents do not monitor their child's television programs closely. Television can also have a very powerful, dramatic and influential effect on young children. Children spend much of there time watching cartoons and other television programs. The programs that a child watches on television can affect that child's behavior pattern in society and even through life. A child that regularly watches violent television shows on a daily basis may become less sensitive towards others, may become fearful of their surroundings and may react aggressively or in a harmful manner towards others. Theses are all possible outcomes on children that are exposed daily to violence on television.
             One effect that violence on television may have on young children is that the child may become less sensitive to the pain and suffering of others. If a child continually watches television programs that contain violence, verbal or physical abuse that child may become immune to viewing that type of behavior. The child would then not know that violent behavior is bad and that you should help someone in need of assistance. The child may not understand that when someone is hurt that they should call for help right away since they view a lot of violent acts daily. Usually in these programs or cartoons, a child may watch the characters getting beat-up physically destroyed or sometimes even killed in one segment and in the next segment the character is back to normal or is alive again. Many children think that the cartoons with that sort of violence are funny and entertaining.
