Body Imagie

Are you a fat, disgusting person who wants to be more attractive? Well then you need to buy blah blah blah.... Ideas like these that you need to look a certain way in order to be accepted seems to be getting worse and younger people are buying into it. The portrayal now are boys needed to be more muscular, and girls have to look skinnier, which I think is horrible. In the late 1960's an internationally known model Twiggy emerged. She was famous for having the "twiggy look" which was super-skinny, starved look that told women that you must look like this in order to be beautiful. Twiggy was the first mainstream person to get the anorexia and made it a real health hazard for many women. This look went on in the modeling world until the 1980's that had a stronger

Twiggy was quoted recently modeling at age 55, 5'6 111 pounds saying "Next to these young models, I just can't tell you how short and fat I felt" which could mean a more full-figured look is popular now. This is also the difference in that boys seem to want to bulk up and become larger while girls want to become thin and smaller. Personal trainers now see younger and younger clients who are trying to "bulk up. Although girls especially have been known for sculpturing their body image as much as they can, boys have not. " Even the scare of the side effects you can get from taking steroids isn't enough to stop boys from abusing them. I personally do not believe in these articles in that these are the new fads since that statistics show that obesity is a problem now more then ever. I myself can fit into the overweight category, but I have not really cared what other people thought of my body image, even though it's not healthy. Compared to about a decade ago, pre-teens and teens alike now are more concern about their physiques and how good their physical attributes. Although I wish these ideas of how the perfect physical appearance would go away seeing how much they can affect children, I highly doubt they will because of how the marketing and business world sells them. Both genders now seem to work just as much in trying to get the best physique in-order to impress the opposite sex. Also, both sexes now are abusing their bodies more then ever with steroids and anorexia. In the two articles, the comparison seemed to be that the concern today among boys and girls is physical appearance. The trend now with young boys is that if you don't look good, girls won't like you and the popular crowd will shun you.
