Character Analysis of Robert Peck

             Robert Peck is a young Shaker boy growing up with new adult obstacles everyday. He is a twelve year old farm boy, weighs just above 100 pounds, and is five feet eight inches. In his religious family his parents are Haven Peck and Lucy peck. Getting the highest score on his test in History he is obviously a good student, while obeying rules that even he disagrees with.
             A first personal characteristic of Robert is inexperience with the world. By this characteristic he shows a lack of knowledge and a sense of innocence. One example for this trait is when he was in school one day he learned that London, England, is the largest city in the whole wide world. But he said that Rutland couldn't' have been much bigger. Really Rutland has a population of only 18,230 and is no comparison to London. This shows you that Robert has never had that much experience traveling and that he lacks in geographical education. Another example is that when Robert goes to the Fair he sees two doors; one labeled LADIES and the other labeled GENTS. Robert hearing that these were places called rest rooms though that they were a place to rest. And he also thought that that was where Mr. Tanner kept his horses because his horses were named Quaker Lady and Quaker Gent. Robert even looked for a door with the label of PINKY on a door. The last example would still be taking place at the fair. Here's a quote, "His wife held a funny looking geegaw up in the air. It looked like some sort of snow shovel I ever see explode. You never saw such a bang of light on a cloudy day in your life. I never saw the World War but it sure must have been like that." This tells you that Robert has never gotten his picture taken.
