Maus II
Many people agree that nice deeds among strangers are done daily, but there are very few people that are willing to step out of their comfort zone and risk their life in order help a complete stranger. In a society where everyone seems to fend for themselves, when it comes to the battle of surviving, there is surprisingly a handful of people that are willing to sacrifice their life to make a positive impact on other people's lives. Pay it Forward, a movie about people performing selfless acts, shows people helping complete strangers by doing something that the strangers cannot accomplish by themselves. The characters in the movie have their own problems to deal with, but their kindness shows as they put their own lives on hold and help someone who they see needs assistance. In Maus II, by Art Spiegelman, one of the characters could have easily played a role in the Pay it Forward movie as she puts her life in danger in order to help others. Although Mancie is a generous guard in the concentration camps, she is still consider a prisoner and has to face the burden of being killed along with the people she is watching over. Mancie is willing to use the little authority she has to help other prisoners by performing ta
Vladek didn't even have a difficult time convincing Mancie to help him, and what's more surprising to Valdek is Mancie's refusal to accept payment for her help. Mancie's selfless actions shows the passion she has for helping anybody and everybody. Vladek, a Jew that looks for opportunity to find help, sees his cousin at the concentration camps and asks him for help. Vladek's cousin, Jakov, tells him that, "there's nothing I can do," but when Vladek offers him gold, Jakov immediately accepts and agress that he "will come help" Vladek. Throughout the duration of the concentration camps, Mancie remains genuine, genuine in wanting to help others. While many of the guards use their authority to bring misery upon others, Mancie uses it to bring a better living environment for others. When Vladek asks Mancie for her assistance, he bribes her with food to make her understand that she will be grandly rewarded if she helps him. Unlike any of the Jews at the concentration camps, Mancie is willing to help people she doesn't even know. Mancie, a savior in Maus II that risks her life for the other prisoners, resembles a hero, a hero whose main goal is doing everything in her power to help others. But Mancie uses her position to make the things the prisoner's wants to do possible. As a guard Mancie is able to do many of the things that the prisoners are forbidden to do. Mancie realizes that the woman needs a simpler job, chores that are easier to do and doesn't consist of using all of a person's strength. In the concentration camps, many of the prisoners, especially the ones that aren't physically fit, have a small chance of coming out of the ordeal alive. Mancie's least concern is worrying if they're able to pay her for her help. Vladek, unrelated to Mancie, is given a miracle when a complete stranger is willing to help him out.
