Australian Unsung Heroes
The oxford dictionary describes ordinary as normal, usual, not special. And it describes extraordinary as very unusual and strange. But according to these definitions ordinary people can't do extraordinary things when they really can. If you look closely in our society you will see ordinary people doing extraordinary things every day. Some of these people include, Nancy Wake, Lionel Rose and Edward Dunlop. Ordinary people who do extraordinary things are not people with x-ray vision or firepower they are people who are just like you and me. They are people who show courage, determination, selflessness, bravery, perseverance, passion, faith and love for others. They are the ordinary people doing the extraordinary things.Nancy Wake is a person who showed love for others, bravery and believed in justice most of all. And it was these qualities that dictated her actions when she was older. Nancy grew up in a poor home in Sydney with her many brothers and sisters who through out most of her life over shadowed her. Since she was little her number one ambition was to be known for herself, for her kindness, bravery and love for others. It was when Nancy was 20 that her need for adventure kicked in. Lionel's family was poor and a good future seemed almost impossible. Lionel fought and won his first big fight at the Festival Hall, Melbourne. Courage is the ability to meet difficulties and danger firmly and without fear. Because if Nancy wasn't as ordinary as she was, she may have never achieved the extraordinary things that she did. Passion - strong emotion, to have great enthusiasm and faith - strong belief, trust in ones self. But despite this many people thank her as with out her they wouldn't be free today. From these three people we have seen that no matter how hard your past was you'll pull through and achieve extraordinary things. He had won more money than any other Australian fighter, but after retirement he entered a downward spiral of heavy drinking and criminal convictions. Edward was sent to Java where at the time Australian troops were defending Malaysia, Singapore and Australia from the Japanese. He turned pro thanks to sponsors, and fought in many fights and one many titles. And they had to cook their food on an open fire. It was this cruelty that sparked her need for justice.
