Society and Our Children
Do We Care as a Society about How Well Our Children Are Being Raised Virginia Satir's work, is very encouraging and inspiring not only for a parent to read but for anyone who wants a better understanding of the dynamics of the family in today's society. Mrs. Satir's book The New People Making resists the temptation to merely blame everything on dysfunction between the partners in the parental relationship, and instead looks at the family as a compilation of defective individuals who all have a potential to grow and learn. I especially like her highlighting on the family's strengths and building on those. Anyone can take a look at a family whether it is a nuclear family, single parent family, step family, foster family, cross generational family, and extended families, and come up with what is wrong. However, this does nothing to solve problems and encourage resiliency, which all families need in this unquestionably family hostile culture. This paper will offer an explanation on society, the family and how today's children are being raised and do we as a society care how individuals are being raised? There is no hesitation that children, our young people need assistance to survive and grow effectively, and this
Both needs could be enhanced if we as a society would address the fact that there needs to be a substantial increase for love in the world and a corresponding decrease for fear. The ways society's children are being raised should be of top concern for society. Parents that show an interest in their child's life will have a child that is more likely to develop good morals, high self esteem and children that are able to make good decisions. Virginia Satir expresses "that when we become aware of the need to reinforce our children's self-worth while at the same time being very reasonable, that our efforts will create the courage and strength to reshape behavior" (pg. They need to learn about what works and what does not in their attitudes to and their behaviors in and toward the world. These families related to society in ways that were hopeful and enabled members to make choices about such interactions. It is comparable to a circle that it never ends. The way Virginia Satir expressed her continuance of strengthening the family and providing an enhanced society was that of great inspiration. Author Virginia Satir, acknowledges and expresses in her book The New People Making that she sees "a need for families to ask to become partners in any institution in which any of their members are involved and to be considered as part of that establishment". Untroubled families had differing characteristics. Satir explained her theory of how a better society can be shaped by constructing healthier families. They need to be seen for whom they really are, spiritual beings coming to terms with a human existence very diverse from, and much more inadequate than what they are used to.
