Philosophers and Wealth

During our class discussion of philosophers and wealth we undertook an evaluation of the benefits, dangers and limitations of wealth. It seems that many people wish to be wealthy although there is much in the history of philosophy and religion that warns us against the dangers of becoming wealthy. There are many aspects to look at and think about before deciding if one would like to be wealthy or not. People with money may also fail at intellectual experiences just as people that may not have a lot of money might fail as well. For example, many people with money become lazy and spoiled due to the fact that they can have maids and others to do everything for them. Money does not determine the amount of love or friendship in your life. There are also many factors that are not determined by wealth. Although there are many benefits to being wealthy, there are also many dangers and limitations brought about by money as well. Although there are so many tempting benefits to becoming wealthy there are also many dangers that many people fall to upon becoming wealthy. They might be the targets of other people due to the fact that they have so much money. For example, one must decide if having freedom from economic worries is worth possibly becoming lazy and spoiled. Many people who do not have a lot of money graduate from college wit just as good grades as people that have money. For example many people who have a lot of money find it hard to make friends because they don't know if the friendship is real or money based. Wealthy people also miss out on the simple joys of life such as working really hard in life to be able to buy a house and a car and support yourself. Money can also help you gain political respect and attain status and power in your community.
