Tea Cake was completely different from Janie’s other two husbands. Tea Cake not only treated her better but he let her be herself. Which is what her other husbands didn’t do. Logan treated her good at first by making sure the water jars was always full in the kitchen, chopped the wood and toted it in the kitchen for her, and he never laid a hand on her; but later on he began to stop doing those daily chores and wanted Janie to do them; but Logan wasn’t the only one who was willing to put Janie to work, Joe did too. He came around when Janie and Logan were still together and swept Janie off of her feet. He had Janie head so high in the clouds that she left Logan for Joe with no regrets or thoughts about ever coming back. Joe gave her companionship, that is why she liked him so much. Every man in town wanted Janie and every woman in town envied her. Tea Cake treated her the same from beginning till end. When Janie wanted to do things, like for example, go to the dragging out, Joe made her feel silly for wanting to do such things. Joe made Janie feel special like she was someone important. The difference between Tea Cake and Joe is that when Teac cake had Janie he didn’t flirt with her at the beginning and then ignored her when she was his. She was herself and more happy than ever. Janie was more of his baby doll to show off to his new town. Tea Cake brought out the real Janie and that’s what differed him from Logan and Joe. And he didn’t mind considering her ideas either. Tea Cake did not only give her companionship but he made her feel wanted and young. Tea let Janie be herself and he let her have fun. Thru Tea Cake Janie was able to be more open, outgoing, and be the character that she was.
