the devil and miss. Prym
The Devil and Miss. Prym by Paulo Coelho Coelho's books has touched my soul. I can see all my guilt, fears, pain, and above all my love. His simple style leaves me questioning myself, do you follow the path of good or evil? The story ( told in third person ) takes place in Viscos, a village that is very far from civilization and unmarked on the map. A place where the people living know that they will be the last generation settled there. There are no children left, a place where every day is the same. All people from Viscos know that there is no chance to change anything in their monotonous day to day life. But change is on the horizon, Chantal Prym is young orphan girl who is working as waitress in local hotel. She is the youngest person in the town, with bright blue eyes, long brown hair and smile that never leaves her face. She is able to receive sympathy from everyone and her indecision made a lot of worries and problems for her. The character of Chantal showed me strategies on how to deal with serious life questions concerning how to decide which path I should chose to follow. For example, how do you judge people around you? How do live life easier than before?
Why? I guess because every person is a different story, and, everyone has different opinions about love, fear and other feelings that we have within ourselves. As the oldest inhabitant of the village she is always sitting outside her front door as she has done for fifteen years. She always had the ability to express her spiritual skills after the death of her husband but, for first time she has a feeling that something bad is going to happen. She could not sleep since Carlos told her secret only because she does not want to know what their decision is going to be. We then see and recognize the real faces of humans. The result is the paths chosen by the unassuming villagers once confronted with the enormous choice that they all face. Carlos, which was the fake name of the stranger, is actually good person, but his life wasn't easy, because he has lost his family, and with it he has lost his faith in people. Berta has a terrifying premonition when she sees a stranger approaching the village's only hotel, not because he is alone but because he is accompanied by inner demons. I think that happened because every human has a good and a bad side inside themselves. It is her last chance to leave Viscos. Carlos is haunted by a tragic past and his mission is to discover whether human beings are essentially good or evil. How important is friendship for us? Is that more important than money? How far people will go for money? How far will we go past evil and is that possible? Why people scared of a bad reputation? A lot of questions come up with this story, but conclusions are left for us. The reason why they are unhappy about themselves is because of the fear of rejection.
