Terrorism
There are many issues which have recently gained international prominence. The most obvious of these is assumably terrorism, and its effect on the world to date. With terrorism as a topic of discussion, I believe there are two possible outcomes. One being the devastation caused by terrorism and the ways in which this might hinder the future of exchange programs, and the other being if we could actually overcome terrorism and further such programs, as well as humankind. As I believe it is important to always look on the bright side, I have chosen to discuss how terrorism may be overcome, by using the goals of the S.C.C.E as the catalyst.Ultimately, the only way to have a positive outcome for all problems is for people to have more tolerance towards themselves and each other. According to dictionary.com, tolerance is "The capacity for or the practice of recognizing and respecting the beliefs or practices of others". If everyone were able to do this, to recognise that everyone is different and respect the beliefs of different cultures, and the way other cultures may do things, the world would be a better place. Just imagine, if people in say Muslim countries could respect the fact that people in the Western World did things diffe
Our international understanding could make or break what this world will become. By going to school in a different country, you are experiencing and learning first hand how their politics, religions and values differ from our own. If this tool could be used expressly to transmit positive information, instead of destructive material, for example, how to make a bomb or to send viruses, then people would not be their own worst enemies. One way of achieving a positive outcome on terrorism is to have a greater cross-cultural insight. Perhaps if such exchange programs were utilised more, and if more people shared the same goals as the S. Exchange would give me the chance to learn about another country, but also teach people about mine. Through experiences such as student exchange programs, today's youth is given the opportunity to enhance its overall perception of the rest of the world and each other. When we were considering this program for me, one of the issues that came up was that there is the chance of something going wrong, but we can't let the fear of terrorism run our lives, and stop us from travelling and undertaking our regular day-to-day activities. The youth of today are the adults of tomorrow. rently and believed in different things, there would be a lot more tolerance, and a lot less problems. The best way to discover something is not to read about it in books, but to live it and be there, to give yourself the chance to learn about yourself, and another culture, as well as recognising your own culture and how it differs at the same time. For me, an exchange trip would be the ultimate learning experience. If this generation has a better international understanding, problems that may be brought forward in the world of today may be avoided in the future.
