Terrorism

             There are many issues which have recently gained international prominence. The most obvious of these is assumably terrorism, and its effect on the world to date. With terrorism as a topic of discussion, I believe there are two possible outcomes. One being the devastation caused by terrorism and the ways in which this might hinder the future of exchange programs, and the other being if we could actually overcome terrorism and further such programs, as well as humankind. As I believe it is important to always look on the bright side, I have chosen to discuss how terrorism may be overcome, by using the goals of the S.C.C.E as the catalyst.
             Ultimately, the only way to have a positive outcome for all problems is for people to have more tolerance towards themselves and each other. According to dictionary.com, tolerance is "The capacity for or the practice of recognizing and respecting the beliefs or practices of others". If everyone were able to do this, to recognise that everyone is different and respect the beliefs of different cultures, and the way other cultures may do things, the world would be a better place. Just imagine, if people in say Muslim countries could respect the fact that people in the Western World did things differently and believed in different things, there would be a lot more tolerance, and a lot less problems.
             The first step towards this is to have an acceptance of other people and cultures, and not prejudice. If people knew more about other cultures, they would have more tolerance for them. Through the S.C.C.E's programs, we can begin to give people an insight into the way other cultures and countries live, and therefore have more tolerance towards them and their ways.
             The youth of today are the adults of tomorrow. If this generation has a better international understanding, problems that may be brought forward in the world of today may be avoided in the future. Through experiences such as stud...
