(pg 61)Regina She is Mrs. Alving's maid, who she has lived with all of her life. Oswald is attracted to her. She is really the outcome of a love affair between the Captain and their maid Johanne, but she thinks that Jakob is her father until the end of the play. She is very prideful for working in the Alving house and very well educated. Although she is attracted to Osvald she is very careful not to over step the boundary of what is proper.
Manders: Do you think that books like these make you feel any better? Any happier?. Alving enters and discusses business terms with Pastor Manders about an orphanage she is establishing in her dead husband's honor. There is still time to bring him back from the paths of immorality. " (pg 77) Summary A basic understanding of a play's plot is an essential step one takes before analyzing theme, symbols, and other elements of equal importance. Osvald complains about life in Norway, and goes on about the joy of living, and how it is exhibited in France. But bring another glass for yourself Regina.
