Violent crime today
Crime exist today in many areas of modern life. Within modern life, however, modern interpretation and execution of the law is present. Many theories of how criminal behavior should be handled have come about concerning violent crimes. The realm of crime encompasses both the social satisfaction or symbolism of crime, and the political view towards punishment. Punishing these offenders of crime can be taken into hands of courts and judges, or set statements and pre determined executions. These areas both give a criminologist many great ideas on how crime can be handled and how society will react to punishment. The article gave many views on how crime is something of a political battle. People today are in fear of becoming victims of crime and wish to see actions taken to limit the possibility of it occurring. Politics deal with satisfying the needs of the public by acting on the issues. Crime is a factor of everyday life that people today want to see dealt with. The article referred to a motion picture called "Network" that stated the slogan "mad as hell and not gonna take this anymore". Many people of society adhere to this slogan and show their anger towards offenders and wish to see action taken to prosecute them.
If we allow the laws to be made by our legislation, and a jury of peers to decide that a person deserves a certain punishment for a crime, then I believe justice can be served fairly. Some people believe that the strict sentences and mandatory punishment as seen in "Megan's law" and "three strikes and your out". Depending on right wing of left wing interpretation of the law, people will think different about the facts that are presented towards them. I believe the article did a good job of showing how a equal balance of the legislation and actual court system and prove to be very successful. The public eye of crime is an important opinion and should be considered when determining what minimum sentencing will be for violators. It is possible that many of the people will be done justice by our judicial system and turn towards the right path. It is believed that strict punishments can lead to people becoming afraid of criminal activity and diverted them away. Mike Reynolds took this idea and imposed what was called the 10-20-life set of mandatory minimum penalties for crimes committed with firearms. These laws serve justice in the fields where judges, parole officers, or district attorney's may be to lenient on the sentencing of certain criminals. However if this law did not work, he would have found another law to push in order to make himself look honest. It is necessary to give the sentence to the offenders that are deemed dangerous. This article opened my eyes to many variations of how a political system can be run. Overall I believed the article to be a good representation of the facts and it allowed me to open up my mind to some areas that I did not think about before. However I learned from the article that the same crime can be looked at from many different points of view. This was seen in California in nineteen ninety four with the "three strikes and your out" law.
