No Smoking In Public
Imagine sitting in a restaurant, unable to enjoy a meal due to the cloud of smoke coming from a neighbor's table. The fact that there was not a designated area for smokers has put the smoker and the non-smoker in an uncomfortable situation. Smoking should be banned in public places, because non-smokers have a right to clean air, and because second hand smoke is more dangerous than actually smoking a cigarette. A study, published in the medical journal Tobacco Control, found that smokers are up to four times more likely to have a stroke than people who do not smoke, but up to six times more likely than those who are not exposed to passive smoking. Smoking should absolutely be banned in public and workplaces. According to the managing director of the American Lung Association, Garrison: "Secondhand smoke causes lung cancer, increase the risk of heart disease, and adversely affects the health of youths and unborn children. A ban would not only improve the lives of us non-smokers, but would encourage those causing the problem to help themselves before it too late from worsen their health.
