Throughout this core class, we have spent most of our time looking at the minorities and seeing the problems that they face, whether it be racism, being oppressed, or discriminated against. For this paper I have decided to focus on one minority group, the gay community. Even though the topic of gay minorities came up only a couple of times this quarter, I felt that this subject was most important to me. No, it is not because I am a homosexual myself, but because I come from a place where homosexuality is a big issue. I also just recently found out that one of my close friends from high school was a bisexual. Being from San Francisco and having a friend who was bisexual, I realized that there are gay people everywhere, even those who I least expect it to be. I thought about how I used to throw out the words "gay" and "fag" so frequently without even realizing that those words hurt people. Guilt played a big part for me in deciding to write this paper. I am going to focus on one main issue regarding homosexual oppression, which is gay marriage. Homosexuals are being oppressed and discriminated against when the people do not choose to accept gay marriages. Society comes up with so many reasons to stop gay marriages. Some examples would be because of conflicting views of religious and traditional beliefs and the stereotypical views of gay people and gay families. People have very little merit when they use religious and traditional family values as reasons for not accepting gay marriages. So society is actually weakening its own core values by viewing gay marriage as unacceptable.
             For those people who believe in the religious views of Christianity, most of them truly see that people who are homosexuals are wrong.
