Pride 7 Prejudice Analysis

             Jane Austen created one of literature's greatest pieces in 1813, titled Pride and Prejudice. Austen's novel is centered mostly in Longbourn, outside London. This is a rare work, including both romance and satire. Austen proves that she is truly one of the great authors with her mixture in this. The story takes place in the early 1800s, the time in which it was written and the brief years proceeding.
             Austen is like no other writer, her style is unique and will be hard to ever duplicate. Although she goes into great detail, it could also be said that her writing is very "wordy" and can go on too long. Austen's ability to strive as a popular author to this day is much do to her ability of writing, as someone would tell a story. The story is easy to follow, and the words are simple. The style of her writing is timeless. Austen wrote Pride and Prejudice for both in her time and for the future. Her goal was to speak directly to the audience and all readers. She has accomplished this.
             The diction from start to finish is for all people with different tastes. "Sir William Lucas, and his daughter Maria, a good-humoured girl, but as empty-headed as himself, had nothing to say that could be worth hearing, and were listened to with about as much delight as the rattle of the chaise (ch. 27 par. 4)." This excerpt shows the common language, yet also shows the only feature that the reader is not familiar with. The different spelling of a few words, including "humoured" in this line, throughout the story is possibly the only feature that is not common in modern America.
             The complex sentences, such as the opening line in chapter 48 highlight Austen's style in syntax. "The whole party were in hopes of a letter from Mr. Bennet the next morning, but the post came in without bringing a single line from him (ch.48 par.1)."
