The History of Cosmology

The History of CosmologyIn this chapter, you will learn about the history of Cosmology. What theories have been developed over the years. Who started the theories about the universe. What sorts of things are in our universe and many other things.Cosmology is the study of the universe. Like any field of science, cosmology involves the formation of theories about the universe, which make specific predictions for the phenomena that can be tested with observations. Depending on the outcome of the observations, the theories will need to be abandoned, revised or made extended to go with the data. The scientists then connect the observation into a bigger picture which is the Big Bang Theory (we'll learn about this later in the next chapter)The Ancient Greeks are a big part of history but how are they connected with cosmology? The Greeks were the first to build a cosmological model of how the sun, moon, stars, and planets. In the forth century b.c they developed the idea that the stars went around the earth every 24 hours and the moon and sun were in between the stars and the earth. The Greeks studied the universe over the centuries and developed another idea that the stars and planets moved in a c

Since the 1980's, there has been an extreme interest in all of these arrangements. Most of their concentration is on Mars right now. By combining very high resolution and signal-to-noise ratio with a large swath width, it is possible to image on a variety of scales down to 1 meter, a scale currently afforded only in glimpses by landers. Of course, the microwave background radiation only explains a little part of this though. This discovery proved Einstein's theory about howthe universe seems to be expanding. Some believe that Einstein made this prediction in 1915 as well. Later Newton concluded that the cosmos must be an eternal sea of stars. However, when Penzias and Wilson discovered the microwave background radiation, in 1965, the Steady State was thought to be the best theory. However, he did advance the theory farther though. Other science goals scientists are looking at are how to understand the geologic and climatic processes and history of Mars. Which mean it would take a continuous creation of matter to create new galaxies as the universe expanded, making sure the universe grows, but it still isn't changed in time. Many astronomers did not believe Copernicus's theory about the earth orbiting the sun. For many years it was uncertain whether or not they universe was eternal or had only existed for a certain amount of time. Stereo image pairs will be acquired over the highest-priority locations with a vertical precision of better than 25 cm per pixel. This is knownas the General Theory of Relativity.
