Othello and Hamlet Comparison

             In the works Othello and Hamlet there are many forms of evil and corruption insinuated by the characters. Shakespeare is the writer of both works and he uses these methods to create a different kind of evil by expressing it through creative and interesting ways. He enables the reader to view the actions of the character and see how each the corruption leads to death and despair. The actions of the characters seem to go against the norm of normal playwrights but Shakespeare's works are unique and different.
             Shakespeare's characters Iago from Othello and Claudius from Hamlet both display many evil actions and are very insidious throughout each play, although their methods of evil may be different.
             Claudius is a very jealous and confused person and this shows many times in the play. Claudius's jealousy comes out when Claudius hands Cornelius and Voltemand a piece of paper and Claudius says
             "Though yet of Hamlet our dear brother's death the memory be green, and that it us befitted to bear our hearts in grief, and our whole kingdom to be contracted in one brow of woe, yet so far hath discretion fought with nature that we with remembrance of ourselves (pg.21)."
             Claudius was unable to see his brother happy and killed him for his pleasure. However, Claudius does have some feelings of remorse when he talks to God about the murder Claudius says, "My stronger guilt defeats my strong intent (pg.165)." This quote proves that Claudius realizes that he made a mistake and he also realizes that he cannot put everything behind him as much as he wants to. Everything reminds him about his brother. Shakespeare's then shows how regretful and unhappy Claudius is because of his devious actions when Claudius states
             "Forgive me my foul murder? That cannot be, since I am still possessed of those effects for which I did the murder: My crown, mine own ambition, and my queen (pg.165)."
