Ben Hur Vs. Gladiator
The movie opens with a preface of showing the birth of Christ and then shifts to a returning Messala (commander of the Roman legion), back to Judea. Messala reunites with a brother type friend, Judah who comes from a wealthy family). But there is one thing that breaks up this relationship. Judah is Jewish and Messala is a roman who wants to dominate over them and says that it's a roman world and the only way to live in it, is to become one. Judah, who will not abandon his people, declines in joining Messala's pact. At this point, Messala decides to let it be for now, then later meets up with Judah and his family. He decides to give Judah one last shot, and asks him to give up the names of Jewish underground resistance leaders. Judah will not be any part of betraying his people and replies by saying he is against Messala. Their friendship ends, and his mother, Miriam and sister Tirzah are saddened to hear the bad news. Later on, Judah gives a slave, Esther, her freedom and she is now able to get married. They share some past time memories, and Judah takes her slave ring and puts it on his finger vowing to never take it off until he finds the woman he will marry. Not to long after the roman g
In that case, the movie ends with Judah reuniting with a family that nothing has changed but a life altering experience. He asks for any information about his mother and sister, but they do not know. Judah recognizes him as the same man that offered him water when he was not allowed to have any, and tries to give back the thanks by doing the same. Both of the movies are set in the same time period of history that is part of a Roman epic. Judah ends up saving the life of a roman officer, and is given to Arrius as his slave by the Emperor Tiberius for saving Arrius. Although Maximus is able to escape death, he is too late in rescuing his family. Analysis In the movies Gladiator and Ben-Hur, there are many similarities and differences, in both the characters and how the movies were made. At the end of the storm, Tirzah and Miriam realize that they have been touched by Jesus and cured from leprosy. In the mean time, at Rome, Commodus is reviving gladiator fights in the Coliseum (a place where they've been banned for five years) in order to gain popularity with the citizens of Rome. Plot Summary of Gladiator The movie starts off in Germania, in the year 180 AD. After some time Judah is one of many shackled to an oar in a Roman ship, which comes into battle with a pirate war ship. Regardless that Judah is devoted to Arrius, he misses his family and must return home. When they stop in Nazareth for water, slaves must wait until the guards are done in order to have some. The carpenter is then crucified to a cross. But each betrayer Marcellus and Commodus are shocked to see when Judah and Maximus have survived and are now back with power (something they had to build back up to from slavery) to seek revenge with the cliche of good versus evil.
