Media tech. Utopia or Dystopia
Media technology and the future. Utopia or Dystopia? What lies in the future of technology in the media will have a massive impact on the future generations, but there is the question of how will it have an effect the children of today, will it be a positive effect or negative. Children of the 21st century are surrounded by computer games, the Internet, movies and television, statistic already show that children spend a majority of their time participating in these technological activities. But children today, are the first generation to be born and raised through this technology era, they are more likely to spend their childhood growing up in a digital environment as they will in the real world. The effects it will have on children in the future is yet to be seen, but I ask what those effects will be. It may give them better hand-eye co-ordination, as they already suggest about computer games today, or it might increase their IQ's because of the vast amount of information that is now available, instead of learning from school or books from the library, much can be learned in the living room of your own home via internet or even television. These are positive effects, but what could the negative effects be? There could be a m
org", this shows how easily children using the Internet can be exposed to adult material. com" who have taken notice of this issue. com" is home to a pornography website. Video games are extremely popular with the young generation, now the graphics for video games have advanced so much that they have become almost life-like, especially in the field of first-person shooter games, this allows players to feel as though they are holding a gun in their hand. Looking into the future, I don't believe that all the children born into the Information Age are destined to become delinquents. However, I do feel that society needs to analyze what these children are being exposed to and recognize the implications exposure to information technologies could have on their lives further down the road. Now controllers have been designed to vibrate as a player shoots to give them a more life-like experience. For example, children would rather watch the programs they want instead of going out to play because these programs are being broadcast at all hours of the day instead of the certain short time that they used to be shown between 3. Given that children are watching television a lot, society may start to develop more programming that is aiming to support their development and create more educational programs in the future. This is a major issue because of the fact that computers cannot tell the difference between an adult viewer or an under aged child. Studies have shown that children under 6 spend as much time in front of television as they do playing outside ( ) But would this mean that the future of television holds a drawback or not? There is the issue that future media on all mediums could make the world less pratical and probably increase the obesity numbers, turning the nation's children into couch potatoes, with the ever more channels becoming available, different people with different tastes have a better and wider range of television to watch what they want. In the long run, the convenience aspect of future technology may be Utopia for consumers but it will also be Dystopia for future health and influential reasons.
