Pearl Harbor

"A date that will live in infamy," this is how President Franklin Roosevelt described the Japanese attack against the Naval base Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The attack began at 7:53 a.m. and it lasted until 9:55 a.m. The attack against Pearl Harbor still known as one of the worst sea attacks in history. The United States did not have any knowledge of the attack that cost them the lives of over 2,300 soldiers and sailors and numerous of ships. The attacked opened United States the door to World War II. The Japanese planned the surprise aerial attack on Pearl Harbor, which is located in Oahu Island, Hawaii. The Japanese filled with fear of United States entry to the war, wanted to weaken their military. However, it was a surprise attack because even up to the day when the attack took place, Japan and the United States were still trying to negotiate peace.Admiral Yamamoto Isoroku was the commander of Japan's combined fleet and also planned the attack against Pearl Harbor. The Japanese also wanted to take United States out of the picture so that they would have the power to conquer the Pacific Ocean. On December 8, 1945, Congress declared war on Japan. There were many investigations that proved that officials knew that there was an attack. Ships were anchored in the harbor; these became perfect targets for the Japanese bombers. " Roosevelt also convinced the congress to declare war against Japan. Over 2,300 sailors and soldiers were left dead. After President Roosevelt died, President Harry S. On that tragic morning many troops woke up to the sounds of bombs and torpedoes that were being dropped by Japanese fighter planes. The first Japanese bomber appeared over Pearl Harbor at around 7:55 AM. About 188 airplanes and 8 battleships were damaged and destroyed. All of the bigger battleships were eventually repaired and serviced again, except for the Arizona and Oklahoma. This made the United States lose the neutrality and fight against the Axis Powers. These aircrafts included torpedo planes, bombers, and fighters. There were about 200 aircrafts; these planes were the first wave of the attack.
