AI essay
When first given the attitude inventory packet, I was familiar with the issues being addressed but not fully enlightened about them. Throughout the year I have learned more about these statements which have enabled me to strengthen my beliefs. Learning about current events and situations in our history has led me to believe more strongly in every single statement. History and the study of current events are helpful in forming concrete beliefs about particular issues because it shows what has happened and is happening when certain things have occurred. Throughout the course, my views on AI statement S13 have gotten stronger. Originally, I did not feel too strongly about this statement, but as the course went on, my feelings on this statement have only gotten stronger. Now that I have learned the history of people like Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X, I am a true believer of this statement. Martin Luther King Jr was an individual man that changed society and the lives of many. Through his methods of nonviolence, he helped gain equality for all people. In Birmingham, AL, before king came along, there was segregation everywhere. African-Americans did not have equal rights and were constantly discriminated against.
This affected my point of view because if Malcolm had not done this, then it would no longer be just black people being unequally treated. Originally, I had only agreed with this statement, but now that I have learned the history of America's wars, I strongly agree with the statement. This very much changed my views to be stronger because if King had not led these people in Birmingham, we could very well be living in a society with fully segregated businesses. All different types of businesses would only have one company for each. My brother along with many others that would be eligible for the draft, would not have to go to bed at night hoping that they don't get drafted and have to go to war. This has also made my views stronger because if King had not taken these actions, we could be living in a society with all white people in the top sales positions, and people of color would be stuck mopping up the floors and taking out the trash. This also has affected my views because if the US had not dropped the bomb, we still would have won the war. People would be leaving America in search of a better life. The act has also allowed them to search anything to do with your money if you are suspected a terrorist, and also they can listen to any conversation you have with your lawyer if you are suspected to be a terrorist. This affected my views in the way that it became stronger, because if President Johnson had never been given this power, then the undeclared war against North Vietnam would have not happened. This has also affected my views because if government regulations had never come into effect, then the business my parents own would be obsolete. If the government had put regulations on these businesses, then possibly adults could have made enough money so that their children would not have to work. First of all, before anyone had even heard the idea of government regulations, a big percentage of workers of businesses during the late 1800's were made up of children. Another example of how my views were changed, were those of the recent war on Iraq. It became known as the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution.
