             The beginning of the Russian Revolution started with the end of the Crimean War in 1855.
             The Russian Revolution began on March 1917. WWI is taking place presently; St. Petersburg and other cities are feeling the ill effect of the war. There are food shortages, anti-war demonstrations, and unfair wages due to Russia's war spending. Riots broke out; bakeries and stores were broken into. Bolsheviks and Mensheviks were leading strikes and riots. On February 25, a huge strike crippled the city and the police could not regain control over the crowd. On February 26, military fire upon the demonstrators and killing about twenty people. The very next day, the military switched sides and became allies with the demonstrators. The police were nowhere to be found. Within the week, the rioters the possessed military arsenals and burnt the central headquarters of the Tsarist police, which led to the arrest of Tsar Nicholas II's ministers of government. All means of public transportation came to a stop and Nicholas was slowly but surely loosing power. Then on March 3, 1917 Tsar Nicholas II relinquished his throne. The Duma and the Petrograd Soviet then came to power.
             The Duma was the Russian legislative assembly, or lower house of parliament.
