             The North American Free Trade Agreement and the Effects of the Economy
             The US Congress approved and signed the North American Free Trade Agreement in November of 1993. It took affect January 1, 1994. The Agreement was amongst the following countries: United States, Mexico, and Canada to eliminate tariffs and trade barriers on imported goods. NAFTA formed one of the second largest trading zones. It first came into idea when the US and Canada made an agreement to eliminate or reduce tariffs in 1989. It has been documented in a five volume 2,000 page legislated Treaty and Supplemental agreement. It consisted of eight parts and twenty-two chapters. According to part one, chapter one of the NAFTA, Article 102: the objectives of the agreement were to:(a) Eliminate barriers to trade in and facilitate the cross border movement of, goods and services between the territories of parties; (b) Promote conditions of fair competition in the free trade area; (c) Increase substantially investment opportunities in their territories;
             (d) Provide adequate and effective protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights in each Party's territory; (e) Create effective procedures for the implementation and application of this Agreement, and for its joint administration and resolution of disputes; and (f) establish a framework for further trilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation to expand and enhance the benefits of this agreement. NAFTA had affected many industries such as agriculture, textiles, and computers.
             Since1994 when implemented, the North American Free Trade Agreement affected the economy of three countries and thousands of residents of North America.
