reflection

             My internship was with Jason Titlton, the Head of Basketball Operations at Cal State Fullerton University. My responsibilities varied from week to week, with the primary focus to assist Jason in any way possible. I was fortunate to have been mentored throughout the internship by Jason, who is very educated and motivated. Recruiting was one of the main focuses of the internship. I was able to understand what exactly goes on in the "off-season" of a Division I Men's Basketball program.
             The overall internship experience was very positive. There was no task, or job that I disliked. Although some were less closely related to my objectives, I still embraced the challenge. Each new responsibility was an opportunity to learn and better prepare for my future.
             I really enjoyed going through the rules and regulations that a basketball program must strictly follow. The NCAA does not allow for cutting corners. Therefore, it is on the coaching staff to inform their players of the exact rules, and stress the importance of honesty and integrity. When a school is put on probation by the NCAA the blame falls directly on the shoulders of the coaching staff. If they do not make the effort to communicate effectively with their players, they are setting them selves up for failure.
             There was no aspect of the field that I did not enjoy. However, certain tasks were more tedious and less informative than others. My market research on summer camps was a very difficult job. It involved contacting members of the community as well as dealing with many local establishments. I now know that to run a successful summer camp it takes dedication and much attention to detail.
             I was very surprised to learn how competitive the "recruiting war" is at the Division I level. I knew that coaches never had a real off-season, but I was unaware of the amount of hours and effort it takes to get the players necessary to build
