             Hero Evaluation: Their Eyes Were Watching God
             She was, once again, wearing the overalls that she was always so comfortable in. Her long black hair was brushed out of her face, showing her beautiful dark facial features. She was growing older, yet the radiant look on her face kept her youthful. I tried not to stare as I passed her, but it was so difficult to restrain myself. After all, she was the woman who everyone had once gossiped about constantly. Having gone through three husbands and the possibility of being convicted of murder within a matter of only years, she struggled through more than any one person should in a lifetime. Yet, through it all, she remained strong and true to herself. Throughout all of the years, she seemed to only be looking for a partner in life, however what she found was her own independence.
             Janie Crawford was raised by her grandmother, who instilled hopes and dreams of freedom in her. Her grandmother chose a man named Logan for Janie to marry, and she did just that. However, Janie was unhappy with the relationship, and decided to leave Logan. She then married Joe, and man with nothing but dreams. Instead of growing as an individual through the relationship though, Joe smashed her dreams. After years, she finally spoke out against him. He was so enraged that he died of anger. Janie then met Tea Cake, a man who finally showed her what love was and that she could have the freedom she had always longed for. When Tea Cake suddenly died, Janie was somehow able to stay strong and continue living her life. Through these personal struggles, along with being an African American woman in a time where life was rough as it was, she made it through. She never gave up, and kept striving towards gaining her independence. She is a hero to all women.
