Portrait of the Artist

As teenagers we are only beginning to realize how malleable we have been in our opinions and understanding of Society, throughout our entire lives until this point. Friends, family, and community influence our views on the social characteristics of the world by the situations and people they bring us into contact with. It is not until he is older is Stephen able to overcome these ideas given to him by his parents and other family and community influences, and build and establish beliefs of his own. Social class is another heavily influencing force acting on Stephen as he grows up in this Irish culture. The separation between Catholics and Protestants is a very heated topic while he is growing up, a public debate that forces its way into his home and divides even the closest members of his family. giving Stauble and Pantin and Coelho a run for their money. and going in the bank, from the front. As I say, I only going in the shops from the back. Just as Stephen's family showed him separate judgments on their religious society, the community Young Man lived him showed him the division between races in society. every race have to do different things.
