An appreciation of the poem-To
An appreciation of the poem-To AutumnThe three stanzas of the poem present us a lively picture from the aspects of taste, vision and hearing respectively. In stanza one, the author gave us a gustatory feast of autumn with some representative image, such as apple-bended moss'd trees, the grape vines that round the thatch-eves, bees' clammy cells. At first the author personate the Autumn and the sun as two people who conspired together to load the vines with grapes,
The author made the England country scene alive before our eyes. Then after a day's work, they return home, begin to make cider. In the second stanza, the author resort to description of field scene to gave us a visual impression, and of course, he succeeded. First, the author set the scene in the soft-dying day bloomed by the barred clouds and in the stubble-plains with rosy hue. And also the author used two adjectives as verbs, which made the poem more lively (swell, plump). Reading the second stanza, a great painting named"The gleaner"came into my imaginary ,and become alive. By this the author portrayed a more and more cheerful autumn to us. View the poem as a whole; it's a fully developed picture of autumn scenes with gracious words and typical images. However the women "gleaner"is not plaintive any more, instead, they work peacefully in the field while their husband reaping ahead of them. The third stanza is a symphony of autumn gnats and birds. to bend apple trees with apples, and to fill the fruit with ripeness to the core. Then the author described from the wailful mourn of small gnats among the river side then to the loud bleat of the lambs in the hilly bourn then to the treble soft sing of crickets in the hedge then to whistles of red-breast from a garden-croft then to twitter of gathering swallows in the skies.
