The Jekylle and Hyde

             The concepts of good and evil and other pure opposites have been the main theme in stories all throughout the ages, but known to the human mind is the fact that not everything is black and white, there are grays and colors too. Through the history of written story, one particular sort of tale, a fairy tale seems to believe otherwise. The particular stories that are found in Grimm's Fairytales are shown to only have characters with one attribute. For instance, in the story, The Golden Bird, the older sons are lazy. There is no statement that even though they are lazy they have good hearts or even any other attributes. In the story, The Juniper Tree, the mother of the daughter is wicked and therefore can only perform evil deeds, harming the son and having it wreak havoc on the heart of the daughter. There are nothing but straightforward, black and white characters that which only have one characteristic, but as humans of sound mind, we know this statement is false. The main question is, "Should we let our children believe in just black and white, or should we paint their pallets with an array of colors?" There is no black and white the array of colors should not stop at the bounds of reality but go beyond into that of the subconscious.
             In the beginning of the Old Testament reflections, the first thing G-d created was the light to contrast the dark, and everything was good the first day. Even the Old Testament states a beginning of no contrast but only a single attribute, however, as the "story" progresses, there are animals, plant life, water and finally people. There is no statement that Adam is only good or only bad, he may be very childlike but he is man, nonetheless, and the same for Eve as a woman.
