The problem is employees calling out sickThroughout the nation company's offer many benefits to working for themincluding paid sick leave. In most companies the employer offers paid timeoff that is accrued either at the beginning or the end of a time frame. Thetime is to be used when the employee is ill or one of the employee familymembers is ill. In recent months it has been discovered that many employeeshave been calling out sick and not coming into work when they are notreally ill. This has been communicated to the management by severalreliable sources. The company is searching for a way to get empl
The data clearly indicates that thereis a problem with employees calling in sick when they are not actually ill. Another possible solution is to provide day care for the children ofemployees. There is little doubt that it would be to the advantage of the company'sinvolved to develop a system that would discourage future employee callouts when they were not really ill. This translates into many dollars lost for the companies who must eithermake due with a reduction in productivity or hiring temporary workers whichessentially doubles the overhead for work force expenses[vi]. If a company were to offer to "buy out" sick leave at the end of a quarter,or a year it would provide an incentive for the employees to report to workunless it was absolutely needed to stay out. Other non-sickness reasons cited:stress and personal demands. This was how many sick hours were used nationwide according tothe published studies. In factas it gets closer to quarter or year end the term "use it or lose it" canbe heard in the halls of companies nationwide. In addition for the parents of the children who mayfall ill, the buy out program might provide the added incentive for theparents to locate emergency care for their children, which would therebyallow them to come to work after all. Each of theseproblems creates a deficit for the employer and companies throughout thenation are scrambling to stop this trend from affecting the bottom line forthem as well as those employees who do not call out sick unless they are. Additional studies point to child c are issues as a basis for employeescalling in sick at work. One move the companies mightmake is to not take it away if it is not used but instead offer to buy itout at half a day's pay for each day the employee has on the books. "Dollars lost to absenteeism have jumped 32% since last year, or nearly $4million for a large company. When this is pout into place the results should be promising.
