Moral Philosophy

Alasdair MacIntyre and Virginia Held are two important figures in the foldof philosophy. Both are renowned because of their own specialfields-MacIntyre for moral philosophy purely, and Virginia Held forpartitioning it for feminist philosophy. MacIntyre's views appear moreglobal and humanitarian. One may say that Held's goal is the same; sheonly looks at feminism as a necessary medium for the service of humanity. Moral philosophy takes into account development, keeps an open mindabout matters that must be given thought, and consists of moral theories.MacIntyre, for instance, gives up on the idea of individual culture toshape morality. Instead, he believes in being questioning toward our moralvalues and to adopt a somewhat universal culture with its own particularprofile of morality. Here, a candid, liberal mind is used. Held, on theother hand, discusses a feminist moral theory, not pure moral philosophy, when she expresses her opinion that moral theory must be about caring aswell. Hence, based on Held's theory, there must be interdependence rather As mentioned earlier, both philosophers express their views in a style

The theory is likeLocke's-it deems that man is obligated toward his fellow being, inparticular his fellow man. This is a good approach to moral theory andmoral philosophy overall. According to him,the society or the individual must work for the higher good of all souls. It is only Singer who clearly outlines that animals too must be protectedin our environment. The most recentwars have shown us how the public reacts to war. The social contract theory does not explicitly consider animals thatwe must act responsible for. There are innumerable variables involved as far as killingis concerned, a moral philosopher may be aware also. Godwin's stance on human nature was not very different from his faithin fairness, equality, and a non-discriminatory attitude toward fellowbeings. Man is responsible then for his own and for the complete humannature which includes his environment. Godwin too made words that mattered for the world and thus, his philosophylives on. Locke and SingerJohn Locke is fittingly popular for his notion of tabula rasa, i. All in all, Locke's and Singer's theories are part of moralphilosophy, with different names. Secondly, utopia is a vital part of such moral theories. Many would say that capitalpunishment is bad while killing in war is justified.
