Operation Management

Customer/Supplier Requirements: Baxter Healthcare Corporation In any organization profit and customer care go hand in hand to makea success of the endeavor. This is especially so in healthcare, where itis important to view the patient as a customer. Patients are the internalcustomers of the healthcare industry. According to Ragsdell (2002), threecomponents are of primary importance when considering customers andsuppliers in the healthcare industry. These are quality, cost and timelydelivery. Thus, high quality healthcare, delivered in a timely manner andof affordable cost, should be delivered by hospitals. Below the ideals ofquality, cost and timely delivery are considered in terms of BaxterHealthcare Corporation, a well-known medical supplier. Quality is defined by Ragsdell (2002) as the long-term and consistentsatisfactory performance not only of products, but also of servicesreceived by customers. Products received should then be placed alongside servic

Thus a paradigm of respect is maintained in all business relations. Furthermore the customer is obliged to indicate the level ofsatisfaction with products and services delivered. Here also the communicative role of healthcaremanagement is vitally important. Baxter Healthcare Corporation Baxter is an organization that has distinguished itself in terms ofquality care in service, integrity, and high quality products. It is with thisparadigm in mind that the corporation provides all its customers with thebest of care. The internal customers within theseorganizations then are the end receivers of the product, and the customerwho eventually needs to be satisfied. Betweencustomers and suppliers, there is a need not only for customer focus, butalso for communication in order to facilitate continuous improvement. Itprofesses to be a customer-focused company, committed to meetingcommunicated needs. If there is aneed that could be met by improved manufacturing techniques, these shouldbe communicated to the manufacturing organization. This is further enhanced by compliance with regulations provided bygovernment to ensure safety and wellbeing for customers. Furthermorecustomer feedback is carefully considered for the purposes of innovationand product improvement (Baxter, 2003). Its care of customers further manifestsitself in the responsibility it shows in terms of sustainable developmentand a responsibility towards the environmental conservation in order toensure the best future for the world (Baxter, 2003). Afurther responsibility resting with healthcare management is then toconsider identified needs, and assess these in terms of what can bedelivered both in terms of service and products. Baxter is however not only committed to its immediate supply chain, but also to society in general.
