Domestic Violence: Germany v. US

Domestic Violence in both the United States and Germany has gotten outof control. "As many as 46,000 German women are estimated to spend sometime at women's refuges every year because of domestic violence." (World:Europe, Germany gets tough on domestic violence) In the United States, domestic violence has been found to be the number one reason for women andchildren to find them selves homeless. "Domestic violence and sexualassault occur frequently in the United States. 1,500,000 women are raped orphysically assaulted by an intimate partner annually in the United States, and 1 in 4 women in the United States will experience domestic violence orsexual assault in her lifetime." (Domestic Violence in the United States) Whether the violence takes place in Germany or in the United States, domestic violence is wrong. Other than the similarities around the worldregarding abusive relationships, there really is no typical victim typewhen it comes to domestic abuse. Psychologists have shown that in themajority of the cases of domestic violence, the typical abuser has a singlepurpose. That purpose is to take complete control over a partner and todemonstrate power over the person. It has been shown that

But, of course, statistics don't lie and men in a majority of thecases are in fact the abuser. As stated, breaking this pattern of violence withouthelp is very difficult. Both countries' legalsystems are well versed in the scenarios. One hates to admit it, but it may beimpossible to find a one hundred percent sure fire way of eliminatingdomestic violence. Psychologists have also demonstrated that no matter where in theworld, there are certain ritualistic methods towards the abused by theabuser prior to an act of domestic violence. Sure, anger is methodthat can instill fear or assist someone in taking control, but, whether theact takes place in Germany or the United States, instilling fear and takingcontrol are the true motives. In conclusion, domestic violence is a global problem and there aresimilarities in the patterns of both the abused and the abuser. The high number of domestic murders in the United States forexample, demonstrates that leaving an abuser can be fatal. These include: children aspawns, coercion and threats, denial and blame, economic abuse, emotionalabuse, intimidation and isolation. the violence inthe majority of cases has nothing to do with anger. Justbecause this report has compared the United States and Germany, actuallyany nation in the world could have been chosen. Be it Germany or the United States, domestic violence is wrong and some howthe statistics have to be reduced!. As demonstrated by the high number of refuge cases inGermany and the fact that domestic violence is the main cause ofhomelessness for women and children in the United States, many abusedindividuals have found out that the only way to break the vicious cycle ofabuse is leaving the abusive relationship. Domestic violence as aproblem transcends national boarders, religions, races and even genders.
