A Modern Frida and Women's Rights Most activists for women find themselves teaching feminism in a post-feministic era. In the early 1900's, Frida Kahlo lived the life that weassociate today with women in the feminist movement. The purpose of thisessay is to show how Frida Kahlo was ahead of her time in the women'smovement, how she was politically active when most women had little to novoice in men's politics and how her role as a women helped shape thehistory of Mexican art while at the same time having a strong influence onthe Communist movement for the struggling nation. In our class books, 'The Prostitution of Sexuality' by Kathleen Barryand 'Women's Rights in the U. S. A.: Policy Debates and Gender Roles' byDorothy McBride Stetson, and our class discussions, we have focused ondiscovering the current issues related to the reproductive rights of women,the controversy of lesbianism, and the unique concerns of minority women. Ihave been fascinated with women's roles in the political arena as well astheir parts, civil liberties, and potential in regard to the traditionalfamily. Reviews of the book weredifficult to obtain but I am sure that after the movie came out more peoplewere interested in the true story of the great artist and political icon. concerns women face on a day to day basishave generated strong debates throughout our social organizations andlegislatures. She has been said to have been atemperamental genius. The argument that the base from whichdiscrimination against women is constructed is nothing more than apolitical barrier. "Being a communist leaderexpelled from his homeland, Leon Trotsky had a hard time finding a countrywhere he would be allowed to reside. She used her sexuality as a toolto further the cause of her beliefs and both men and women may have beenpowerless against her because of intelligent use of sexuality to influencepolitics. Frida Kahlo helped shapeMexican history by being a strong woman. He stayed temporarily in severalcountries, until he was allowed to come to Mexico in 1937, after DiegoRivera had used his influence to make this possible.
