Partial Birth Abortion
The 1972 passage of Roe v. Wade has made abortion the greatest moralflashpoint in the United States today. For abortion supporters, the issueis often framed as a question of women's rights and privacy. Thisargument, however, ignores the reality that abortion - particularly late-term of partial birth abortion - involves the rights of another human beingas well. This paper further argues that a fetus is a human life, andentitled is therefore entitled to the same protections as any person whohas been born. It further argues that the termination of a fetus's lifeinvolves violent and painful procedures that would be akin to murder andtorture. Violence and abortion procedures Many pro-abortion activists also paint the termination of a pregnancyas a benign procedure. However, the abortion procedure is aviolent and painful process, one that involves collapsing an unborninfant's skull. Instead, she grieves over a lost baby. Furthermore, scientific evidence shows that even earlyfetuses and embryos have many of the characteristics that are used todefine life in medical terms - such as fully-formed bodies, genetic DNAcodes, heartbeats and brain waves. More important, theembryo's heart has begun to beat, nourishing the other growing organisms(Costa 181). District Court for Nevada has issued a restraining order against theimplementation of this bill. The risk of infection and other abortion-related complications for themother are higher the farther she is along her pregnancy. In the same vein, a woman who suffers a miscarriage is not told thatshe has lost a fetus or an embryo. Wade has done much more than makingabortions legal.
