From an isolationist nation to a global power

During the late 1800's and the early 1900's the United States saw historic changes in the way it approached world problems. Before this time period the United States had remained for the most part, an isolationist nation. The changes began as the century neared closing and were historic in their nature. One of the most important contributors to the break out position of a global nation for the United States was the entry into the arms race. While the past had seen concentrations on areas of building the nation to be strong and productive, this time period saw a decision to build arms and out do other nations in the world when it came to strengthening its military forces. The navy was built up trough the building of many ships and the training of its recruits, while the other services followed suit. CONCLUSION The decision to become a super power was ignited with fear of attack. The United States began to trade with its allies in the way of materials, ideas, and personnel. The government sent messages to the public that were meant to create fear so that the public in turn would fund the movement to build arms and get into the international arms race. World War one was the ticket to support and with the United States entry to the war the US residents were more sure than ever it had been a wise move to become a global nation. As this push to build American military services began the nation's residents began to support the movement. The United States realized that with the European nations building their forces it was only a matter of time before they banded together and looked across the pond at a possible new conquest.
