             A) Moira is an ancient Greek word for a predetermined fate. It's meaning points out that everything does not depend on free will. There are certain things in life that one cannot control. Moira plays a central role in Sophocles' Oedipus because the play's conflict is between fate and the choice of action. The story begins with a prophecy that has warned Oedipus about his Moira which stated that in the future he will end up killing his father and marrying his mother. Thinking that his mother and father were Polybos and Merope, he fled from home so he could change his fate and not end up harming his family. Oedipus begins his unplanned journey without having any final destination to begin a new life. At a crossing on this journey he runs into a group of carriages and begins to quarrel with them until the quarrel leads to there deaths. After this, he heads for the city of Thebes where he outsmarted a beast that was cursing the city. Because of his bright intelligence he received praise and joy by all of the city's citizens and therefore gained there trust and quickly became there King. Loved by all, as he as well loved them he was praised for being a great king because he would do anything in his power to make them happy. With time, Oedipus finds out that the city is in trouble once again and unless the killer of their late king is found and punished the city will go through a great plague. Little does Oedipus know that he is the killer of their late King who was also his real father. As mysterious questions arise through his strive for answers on the King's death, Oedipus is warned not to "dig too deep" because he will regret what he will find. Being the stubborn person that he was, he forced everyone to tell the little that they knew about the King's death.
