Abortion

Abortion is a totally unacceptable, cruel and unethical practice andshould be considered illegal except under some special cases and medicalcircumstances that indicate a danger to the mother. Our judicial systemmust consider the ethical and moral aspects of abortion as an intrinsicpart of the problem when approaching this social issue. The recent banningof the partial birth abortion is a huge stride in the positive direction. Abortion is the one of the most debated social issues of thiscentury. The controversy as to the right that man has over the life of ababy in the fetus and in controlling its entry into the world is a much-debated topic. Abortion is the process of putting an end to the life of thebaby by killing it in the womb itself. This social issue assumes all themore importance given the fact that an astounding 1.7 million people haveabortions every year in the United States alone. There is much debate thatthe procedure, which was initially indicated as a life saving method, istoday misused to suit the whims and fancies of the people. Let us analyzethe ethical and moral and medical aspects of abortion in a little detail.

Abortion is perceivedas an option that empowers women with the right to exercise her choice toprevent unwanted pregnancy. Unless strict medical grounds indicateit abortion should never be performed. The judges also defined the time period(trimesters) within which abortion is legal. Recently President bush has passed the law, which bans this cruel procedure making a positive step in the rightdirection. Even more astounding isthe fact that 80% of these are undertaken on perfectly healthy mothers andbabies. Pro-Life On the other hand we have the Pro-life group, which opines thatabortion in any form to be an unacceptable and inhuman practice and nothingshort of brutal murder and infringement of the rights of the baby in thefetus. The main stress is on the rights regardingthe reproductive choice of women. Wemust strive to employ strict legal measures to counter all forms of thisobnoxious practice from being used as a purely elective and convenientalternative to motherhood. However this decision is still viewed as ahighly controversial one. Today, however ourgovernment has banned certain cruel methods like Partial-Birth Abortion. Partial Birth abortion This is the worst and the cruelest form of abortion. Though these two groups have a totallydifferent outlook and approach to the issue there are some general caseswhere there seems to be a general agreement over the abortion option. This group considers that life begins as soon as the baby isconceived and hence abortion is viewed as a breach of rights of the baby.
