How was your verbal communication during your presentation
During one of the presentations that I did about one year ago gave methe opportunity to reflect on my presentation style, verbal communication,communication of ideas, and personal appearance. Seeing different aspectsof my presentation, I realize that I made several errors during mypresentation. Some of the significant mistakes that I made are given In the presentation style, I now realize that I had not rehearsedearlier how I should present my material; also I did not have a goodunderstanding of the material that I was suppose to present. I wasespecially not sensitive to the needs of my audience. Therefore, during mypresentation, I was not so confident and did not look at the audience. Irather spoke rapidly in an unclear manner and did not state my goal of the Carnegie (1992) argues that the ability to communicate effectivelyand finding the audience's co-operation is important in enhancing thepresentation style. However, this only comes with confidence and masteryof the material, since it binds the audiences' attention. During my presentation I found that I hadmade several spelling mistakes in my slides. I discovered, however, that speaking to a group ofpeople was quite different. I simply spokein a rambling fashion and did not think ahead for using some commonexamples. I was nervous and was afraidof audience thinking that they could ask some questions. In mycase, I really did not know how to improve my contents of the presentationbecause of my lack of knowledge in the subject area. Moreover, I did not have astructure that caught the audiences' attention. However, I became more confused because the ways I ordered theslides. This lack of clarity in my speech was also one of theindications of my poor knowledge of the subject. I also found that in someslides I did not know how to finish the sentence when a new slide was put. In my case, there was nothing colorful in my presentation. Carnegie (1992) argues that in drawing the audiences' attention, thepresenter should provide several common examples that the audiences arefamiliar with. According to Carnegie (1992), the presenter should be able toprovide details in a colorful and methodical way so that audiences findsome kind of continuity in the presentation and also find the presentationinteresting. In my case, I did not have such strategy. I also realize that my communication skills were not clear.
