Personal ethical dilemmas are part of everyday life in the realm ofbusiness management. Business professionals are often faced with difficultsituations that demand challenging decisions. These situations ofteninvolve problems that confront and involve moral and ethical behaviorwithin the business. Wrong decisions on the behalf of business managementprofessionals may spell disaster for the careers of these individuals aswell as for the business itself. Personal ethical dilemmas confronted bybusiness management professionals include being offered gifts, compromisingquality, lowering the quality of communication with co-workers andmanagement, as well as with clients, and the abuse of power along with thetransparency and openness of information (Rutland, 2002). One of the key problems faced by business professionals is whether ornot to accept gifts that are offered by contractors or vendors involvedwith the business. Furthermore,business management professionals must strive to eliminate any sources ofbias or discrimination within the workplace based on individual differences(Dean, 2001). These skills include: the ability to effectively manage clientrelationships, conduct appropriate analyses when necessary, ability toidentify the root causes of conflict, openness to partnerships within thebusiness, negotiating skills, conflict resolution skills, technical skills,the ability to build commitment and consensus among employees, projectmanagement skills, public speaking skills, and the ability to facilitatechange as needed. Along with this responsibility comesrespect for the rights and worth of individuals (Dean, 2001). All ethic dilemmas shouldbe addressed through the careful use of analysis and evaluation, withinwhich all pros and cons are measured with particular attention paid to theeffects that a decision may have on other people. At the core of all ethical standards is honesty and integrity.
