The Manifest Destiny was a term used by the American Politician in the1840s to explain the continental expansion by the United States of America. There are hardly any nations in the world that exists without having anypurpose or destiny. "The population of the United States felt that it wascrucially important to aggrandize their boundaries of freedom to others byconceding their idealism and doctrine in democratic organizations to thosewho were not capable of self-government"(Manifest Destiny). This did notinclude people who were not capable of governing themselves such as thenative Americans and people from the non-European origin. In 1967, President Lyndon Johnson andPanamanian President Marco Robles conclude three years of work withagreements addressing Panamanian concerns" (Background Information ForTeachers). "Unrest in Panama over United States presencecauses riots in 1959 and 1964. The Americans were apprehensive to contest with the Britishfor the Asian trade. The treaty wassigned on 5 February 1898 and it allowed the United States to build thecanal but not entirely under its sole control. In 1880, President Rutherford Hayes professed a policy that wouldallow the United States to acquire control of a canal. The treaty was signed on 18 April, 1978. The American imperialism was strongly inspired by the European Imperialism. This treaty however wasnullified later because Roosevelt thought that the British gained much morethan the Americans did by the building of the canal. Excavation could proceed more rapidly if enough labor were available;health conditions would be better; and more economic development in the areawould probably take place. The primedifference between the two was the Manifest Destiny was just the effort ofthe Americans and the era of Imperialism was backed up by many othernations and resulted in more slave states.
