A Visit to a Korean Senior Citizen Service

             When I visited Korean Senior Citizen Service Center again to look this agency closer and to analyze its function, in reality, I could understand better what the agency does, how it works, and how its activity influences in society. First of all, the atmosphere of the agency in general that I caught was busy but not in a hurry. The attitude of the workers was nice and patient. When they talked to the clients, they tried to listen to what the clients said even though the clients' speaking was not focused on the major topic of the issue they had. For example, one client who was an old Korean man was talking about the citizenship application process with the worker — but suddenly, he started to talk about his son he left in Korea before he immigrated to U.S. The worker did not make him stop talking about it, but instead, she let him finish his talking and agreed with him smiling. It was such a nice and warm scene that I got at the agency because her smile was enough to present the worker's kind and considerate attitude toward her client. Also, the clients were cooperative. They listened to what the workers said and tried to find a way to maximize the benefits they can get through agency's help. There was no irritating voice or loud argument in a conversation between the clients and workers. I could see one side of cooperative society from the people who needed help and who helped at that moment.
             Even though an executive director, Peter Park, said the name of the agency, "Korean Senior Citizen Service Center," does not represent the service center for a particular ethnic group of Koreans, but the area of Koreatown in Los Angeles, the majority of clients of this agency are Koreans. Especially, Korean seniors who are 55 years old and older and Korean immigrants are main target population of the agency.
