History of the Labor Unions

The history of labor unions in the United States is almost for theentire history of the country. There were no problems of unemploymentinitially, yet today it has become a major problem. This is turn has causedproblems for the country as these people have to be provided a livingallowance. In turn, the labor unions also have their own problems, and thechief among those problems are the proper management of the union funds,and the earnings of the unions are quite high today. When the unionsstarted, the aim was to achieve decent living conditions for the workers,and the full organization that is seen today was not designed. That was thestage when the movement was more of a social benefit movement. The natureof the movement changed when the money in the business was realized. Thegrowth of the unions was unimpeded over a long period, but the starting wasmarred in a lot of controversy. The major strikes were opposed by the thengovernment, but the unions did not give up. Theaverage amount of dues collected from the union members in 2000 was$675. This was due to the Depression of 1893. 75came from the wages received by the members of the unions. At the sametime, this situation in other countries of Europe is not so severe. The Federal government also took a role due to the claim that thestrike was causing problems in the delivery of mail. At certain times, there aremany people searching for a source of income and unable to find it and thisalso reduces the sales of goods and services in the market place. It is very difficult for any individual to be ina condition when he cannot find a needed job. Solution The worst problem is with the low wage labor market, and that consistsof the people who receive welfare, and individuals who get a very lowsalary, but that salary is higher than the poverty levels. The Chief Operating Officer had also been given someresponsibilities and was to guide the Labor Relations Officer, and act asthe chairperson of the management negotiating committees. One of their firstleaders was Samuel Gompers and he had started organizing strikes and sit-ins for the workers to achieve the objectives. Yet, the organization of unions did not reduce.
