Statement of Purpose for Graduate School
I typed so furiously my roommate thought my fingers had become infectedwith a strange disease. When he asked what I was working on with suchintensity I told him that I was placing the finishing touches on my seniorproject. I didn't want to tell him that I had also vowed to help my companyrestructure their database for Internet sales and that I had to leave forwork in a few hours. Taking on several projects at once is one of mytrademarks, something I do out of sheer enjoyment for the love and thrillof programming. Plus, I always finish my work on time. My senior project, which was about building online sales assistance systems using CwAdvisorand Internet Voice, turned out to be a success according to my instructors;their positive feedback further spurned my desire to take my career onegiant step forward and apply to graduate school. Although I gravitate toward and therefore specialize in Internet sales-based systems creation and engineering, I
For example, I am interested in learning more aboutcryptography and network security, areas in which I was unable to pursuefully as an undergraduate student. Few classes in my field of choice give me problems, but for somereason I never quite appreciated the ins and outs of software testing, probably because I prefer to create and execute programs and databases. Without a graduatedegree I would flounder and remain limited in my potential and mycommitment to growth. Irelish the feeling of my brain's synapses firing wildly as I solve problemsone step at a time, moving in logical sequence from one project to the nextuntil a cohesive system is finished. In fact, what I gleanfrom a graduate studies program in computer science can carry into almostany sector: from education to government to business. I will receive my computer scienceundergraduate degree this December and hope to immediately enter graduateschool the following spring, in the year 2005. Because of the seamlessintegration of my undergraduate career with my long-term professionalposition in the software developing industry, I am uniquely situated toexcel at graduate studies immediately. In fact, my Associate's Degree was earned in the field ofelectrical engineering, which gave me a fundamental and fascinatingfoundation in computer hardware before working for the company I have beenwith for the past five years. I have clear visions of how I would liketo apply my skills as a software engineer and developer; this vision alwaysincludes participating in some regard with a company that heavily relies onInternet-based sales. As a software production engineer, I havebeen truly able to hone my skills and directly apply what I was learning. Furthermore, my motivation andpassion match my experience. As I am already academically and professionallyexperienced in this field, I know that a graduate degree will open aplethora of new doors for me. have also worked in ancillaryrelated fields.
