Special Education: ERIC/OSEP special education program, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Rethinking Special Education for a New Century

In the past, special education has been an issue that went unnoticedin school curricula and by school administrations. It is only recentlythat more attention has been given to the needs of disabled learners. Thisis a manifestation of the increasing compassion for less fortunate personsin society. Furthermore classroompractices are also considered in several of the chapters. The overall temptation is to concentrate on thosestudents with the greatest likelihood of making a success of their academiclives. Its success would mean that the entirecommunity benefits. Practically, the findings of this research can be included inseminars and workshops for teachers with the purpose of benefiting disabledchildren across the country. In practical applicationthen, principals need to be inspired to make the most of this role in anenvironment of increasing pressure and public scrutiny.
