Changing Perspective

             Change. It is a concept frequently discussed as being an inevitable part of human life, something every person has experienced countless times, and will continue to experience throughout his or her lives. Change, particularly in relation to changing perspective, is a notion that is repeatedly explored by composers in thousands of different texts.
             Robert Frost and Miroslav Holub are two composers who focus in their texts on the themes of "Changing Perspective" through poetic examination of issues concerning the individual. They both tend to work metaphorically to incorporate ideas involving change, Frost using various aspects of the natural world to represent the value of life and the isolation of human existence.
             A modern example of a text, which integrates ideas involving, changing perspective, is the film "28 Days". This film deals with emotional change and the effect a change in perspective can have on the choices an individual makes. The film demonstrates through a variety of events, that change and change of perspective can be triggered by certain events and experiences and that every person faces their own perspectives.
             Robert Frost, an American poet of the early 20th century, presents the concept of change and changing perspective through his poems, such as "After Apple Picking", which incorporates elements of the natural world to express the composer's views. "After Apple Picking" is a representation of the composer's own creative processes. It demonstrates the workings of the imagination; the bombardment of artistic inspiration the composer himself constantly experiences. The desired, but draining task of picking through ideas is represented through a literal description of a commonplace farm activity, referred to as "the great harvest".
