But by that time the girls are gone and his action fails to make a resonance he wanted. Sammy who feels sympathy and attraction to one of the girls is offended and under the influence of emotions demonstratively takes of apron and resigns, showing protest against manager's behavior. It was a reaction on abuse of his object of passing sexual passion, who only confused his impulses. The issue at the store has little to do with Sammy's moral principles, positions or values. The story is told by that young man, who is now much wiser and more experienced so that he is able to evaluate and analyze his past actions and deeds.
