1.Is this an example of disruptive or non-disruptive behavior?Tardiness is an example of disruptive behavior, although it is not as directly distracting as, for example, a student talking aloud in class out-of-turn or taunting a fellow pupil. When a student is tardy and enters a class late, student attention is momentarily distracted from the teacher or the assigned work to the sight of the tardy student entering the classroom. Also, when a student is tardy, this sets a bad example for the other students. Regardless of the student's reasons for being tardy, other students are more apt to be lax about their attendance, and eventually their overall classroom behavior, if they see an infringement of the rules tolerated by the teacher. Even if the tardiness is excused with a note, when flouting the rules repeatedly condoned, this suggests that the rules are guidelines, not set in stone, and that rules apply differently to some students, not to others, and thus the rules are unfair and not worthy of student respect.2.What has Mr. Smith already done to help him reach a sol
If no students did so for a week, the class would get a pizza party on Friday, where everyone would be allowed to talk. Brown has attempted to provide some release for her students' chattiness, but this has had the opposite effect. If this does not result in a solution, the boy's parents should be called on for a conference of all affected parties. This should indicate to the boys that their teacher is a fair-minded man. Also instituting some sort of penalty system, whereby talking out of turn resulted in the students having to 'pay' a fine-staying after school for a short period, for example-would be another positive step towards reasserting her authority.
