Hinduism: Often a Misunderstood and Underrepresented Religion
Hinduism is an often misunderstood and underrepresented religion on a global scale. Much of its low key status within world religions has to do with its traditionally appeasing rather than confrontational mentality against Christianity and Islam. Hinduism is the third largest religion in the world, and it differs greatly from the other two primary faiths in that it does not have a single specific founder, theological system, or moral mandate (Hindus Universe, npg). Originating in India, the religion represents the amalgamation of many different religious sects that have evolved since the 1500 BC era. Hinduism is primarily a henotheistic religion, which means that while they recognize a single supreme deity, in the form of Brahman, they accept that there are many different Gods and Goddess who are mirrors and aspects of the supreme God. For most Hindus, their religion rests upon the belief of the Transmigration of the Soul, a concept that we deem reincarnation. This is principally the transformation of an individual's spiritual self into another transitive body after death (Hindus Universe, npg). The consistent cycle of birth and rebirth based upon one's accumulation of good and bad "karma" is the principle behind the religi
Hindus believe in many Gods that are manifest as mirrors to a supreme God, thus they cannot deny that deities exist outside their knowledge within Hinduism. The Gospel explains that only through understanding Jesus' sacrifice and ultimately following and trusting in his guidance can we ultimately move away from our path of self-destruction through sin, and move towards Heaven. The Gospel tells us of God's love for us, and how we must live with the spirit of Jesus so that He may guide us to Heaven. Since Hindus are so principally concerned with eternal enlightenment, the emphasis should be that the only real way to eternal enlightenment is to enter into Heaven. The Bible offers its own explanation of what the gospel represents and does, ", the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. Jesus, who is the proverbial "son" of God, and therefore God in physical form, took upon himself to rid us of our sins by laying himself across the cross. Therefore Christianity offers them the mechanism to achieve enlightenment through the teachings of the Gospel, because through the words of Jesus is the only way to Heaven. Christianity and the teachings of the Bible is the proper framework that they must pursue if they want to actually achieve enlightenment. Christ's sacrifice sets an example of supreme martyrdom, and he ultimately represents the role model by which all Christians should live. This entire system, also known as Samara, is steeped in deep tradition and is one of the core principles of the religion. Within the Gospel, an explanation of how our sins were taken up by Jesus himself is given in full detail. Through this method, by relating what is within the Gospel to Hinduism a successful witnessing may occur. Unlike other religions, Hinduism is highly tolerant of co-existing religions precisely because practitioners believe that every God is a reflection or mirror of their supreme God. That there are in fact heavenly guidelines by which we must live in order to receive redemption, these are all important lessons taught through the Gospel. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures" (Cor 15:1-4).
